I am really glad you’ve accepted my interview. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.
You’re very welcome! Thank you for inviting me to be interviewed.
Can you tell us a bit more about how you became a writer?
I’d always wanted to write but after teaching for six years I realised that I would never have time unless I took a huge risk and left my teaching career to finish my first novel. I’m an ‘all or nothing’ kind of person! I’m so glad I took that chance!
Was it difficult for the first book to find a publisher?
Yes, I was lucky that I found my agent very quickly but we had trouble selling it. It came close to a deal a couple of times but there was always something stopping it (like publishers already taking on too many thrillers etc). My agent then published it (and book 2) through Amazon Whiteglove (which I don’t think exists anymore) and after that I was lucky enough to get a deal for book 3.
Could you describe literature in three words?
Escapism, wonderful, fulfilling
Is there a book you would never read? Why?
Anything in a genre that doesn’t appeal to me but I do like to keep an open mind!
What’s your favorite book?
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. It has been ever since I studied it at university (long before the TV series!)
It’s not really book related but my favourite quote is ‘Carpe Diem’! It perfectly sums up how I try to live.
EBooks or paper print?
Definitely paperbacks – I do have a Kindle but prefer to hold an actual book.
What inspires you?
Having goals and trying to achieve them. People who have overcome adversity to live the best lives they can.
Imagine you were given the opportunity to meet a book character in real life. Who would that be?
That’s a brilliant question! Eleanor Oliphant – she’s such an interesting character!
What’s your worst nightmare?
Anything happening to my children. And not being able to write anymore!
The best decision of your life was?
Leaving teaching to write!
I can’t wait to read your next book. Are you currently working on a project? Is there any release date to reveal?
I’m currently writing book 8 – no release date yet as this book will be with a new publisher.
